About Crankworthy
Last updated: October 2026
Crankworthy is a free bike upgrade advisor: which upgrades are worth it on the bike you already own, and which to skip.
Most bikes worth riding are worth improving, but most upgrade advice is written for a generic bike — or to sell you the expensive part. Crankworthy starts from the bike you actually own and tells you which few parts change how it rides, which ones fit its standards, and which ones to skip. Half the advice is what not to buy.
How a verdict is made
- Your bike. You describe your bike in plain words. AI works out its specs — freehub, bottom bracket, axles, brake mounts, drivetrain speeds — and shows them as a table you can check.
- The rules engine. Every proposed part is checked against those standards by deterministic rules (speeds, freehub bodies, shell widths, axle and mount types). The AI can never report a part as fitting better than the rules engine says it does.
- Parts from the catalog only. Recommended parts, their specs and their prices come from our catalog, not from the AI, so a recommendation can never be a part that does not exist.
- The write-up. Explanations and the step-by-step workshop guide are drafted with AI from those checked results.
Where the specs come from
Part specifications in the catalog are recorded from manufacturer documentation. Your bike’s specs are inferred from your description, so check the table Crankworthy shows you against your bike before you buy anything.
Bike specs are worked out from your description with AI and checked by our rules engine; parts come only from our catalog. Write-ups are AI-assisted and are no substitute for a professional mechanic — verify torque and fit before riding.
How Crankworthy makes money
Checking your bike and ranking upgrades is free. The full step-by-step Workshop Guide is a one-time $9.99 unlock (see Pricing). Some retailer links are affiliate links; they never decide what we recommend (see the Affiliate Disclosure).
